This kayak rack's v shape and width (39") is engineered for wider and heavy loads. It is compatible with hull shapes that involve stepped planes or other non-traditional shapes. Plus, it can inadvertently can be used to extend the width of your overall roof rack thanks to the ability for this bar attachment to overhang beyond the end of the bars. This frees up room for a second kayak next to it using the adjustable j-rack or even another EZ Roller V-Rack if the bars are long enough.
