The Vail 24.5 snowshoe is for women and smaller individuals up to 165 lbs. with a boot size between a Women's 6 (4.5 kids) and W's 15. It is an outdoor industry top pick for winter hiking on packed trails, groomed trails, steep terrain and shallow to moderately deep powder. It's lightweight, very easy to maneuver and features a binding system so well designed and functional  that it has been continuously recognized as the best women's snowshoe on the market by most outside magazines during many of the last 22 years it has been on the market (previously named the Gold 13). 

The Vail 24.5 includes an all-foot encompassing binding system, easy to adjust with gloves on. And, like all other aluminum series Crescent Moon models--the bindings are constructed from extruded cold-weather proof plastic that won't become brittle or tear with age. The bindings are made with an anatomical design for both L/R. They fit a wide range of sizes and boot types, including tele and snowboarding boots. They are very comfortable with adjustments that allow you to customize to your unique footwear shape (instep, widths, and girth).

The Vail 24.5 features a frame which has been bent with a very steep nose and tapered tail. Because of this unique teardrop shape, with each step, the shoes will clear away from themselves within the distance of your own natural stride without forcing you to adapt a new walking style, like traditionally shaped snowshoes do. The Vail 24.5's are exceptionally responsive, lightweight, and comfortable on all snow conditions. The tapered tails help the snowshoe "track" with the trajectory of your stride, much like a rudder on a boat.

Each set of aluminum snowshoes come with a pair of heel lifts, an optional feature for your snowshoes, which adds 2 inches of platform under your heel and makes climbing more efficient, comfortable (by reducing the strain on your calf muscles), and improves traction. If you're located in the mountains, and you're snowshoeing up long, sustained climbs, a heel lift might be exactly what the doctor ordered. If you're spending most of your time on flatter or rolling terrain, you probably don't need the heel lift.
