First off, Crescents are built using the highest grade polyethylene available (cross-linked polyethylene), not linear polyethylene (which is what 90% of the kayaks on the market are made of). Cross-linked polyethylene is superior in abrasion resistance, rigidity, color fastness, and protection against UV degradation and aging.

Crescent also doesn’t “value engineer” by taking material quantity shortcuts such as skimping on hull thickness or reducing surface areas (e.g., freeboard in the bow).

Despite their toughness and completeness, these kayaks are relatively lightweight and therefore manageable on and off the water.

Designed to perform using multi-chined hulls that displace water to produce substantial secondary stability, Crescent’s don’t rely on flat, barge-like hull shapes which drag, don’t track well, and add unnecessary width and bulk. Remarkably, the chined hulls provide ample stability which allow the paddler to stand while on the water and maximize their load capacity with gear, a child or two, or a pet. These hulls offer more taper, too, which also makes motoring more efficient and fast.

Arguably, Bonefides, Natives, and many other brands have hull and deck shapes that are designed to be attractive (e.g. a chiseled fighter jet inspired bow…) but not necessarily function-first (…which causes drag), much in the way fishing lures do (to “catch” the buyer, not the fish).

Crescent Kayaks use patented hulls which incorporate a stepped shape with inverted keels, a strong skeg shaped stern, and tapered deck edges (which creates more clearance for your hands when paddling).

Their flared and upswept bow shapes allows the kayak to ride high and dry in chop, mild whitewater, and somewhat swell-induced situations. You can add a lot of load weight to the aft section of a Crescent kayak without it porpoising.

Constructed of stainless hardware and aluminum framing--absent of a single rivet--they are made with 100% locally fabricated components.

Crescents use threaded bolt receivers throughout much of their platform to prevent stripping or pulling out of hardware under reasonable force.

Also unique to this brand is the absence of molded in features for, around, and underneath the leg/feet areas, giving you lots of “clean” space for standing, gear, and a place to sit your dog or child.

Equipped with center carrying handles for centered lifting when alone.

Crescents can be accessorized with traction pads for their interiors, track systems for mounting various YakAttack holders and cargo boxes, and fitted with Newport Vessels electric motorized systems.

All this at similar or lower price points than “the big guys” like Old Town, Bonefide, NuCanoe, Native, Wilderness Systems, Hobie, and most others!
