The Byron 9'8 is a smaller than average SUP, designed for paddlers looking for remarkable stiffness and versatility in a compact, lower volume size. This 4.7" thick board provides exceptional performance and quality rarely found in an inflatable.

The Byron is built with Honu's latest X‑Woven drop-stitch construction with fused seams and heat-welded rails. This allows the board to accept much higher than average air pressure, generating the most stiffness at the lightest weight of any other SUP brand in the world.

This latest model year incorporates the addition of a ClearSkin outer layer which reveals a woven nylon reinforcement. Also for 2026, the Byron series features a more versatile deck rigging system which provides more space, more tie-down options, and a removable bungee setup you can adapt to your trip needs.

Underfoot, the deck is now equipped with Honu's newly designed EVA foam traction pad. It incorporates a thumbprint pattern engineered for wet grip, all-day comfort, and better water drainage than its predecessor. Unchanged is the kick pad that extends from the deck surface in the shape of a wedge. This creates a foot-pressable "lever" to lift the bow out of the water for short turns.

Honu also redesigned the already incredible roller bag from the ground up: more storage, more pockets for easy organization, and a removable waist belt that you can tuck away when it's not needed.

Shaped like a classic long board surfboard, the Byron is built to feel confidence-inspiring across the widest range of conditions, from calm water cruising to playful small-wave sessions. The Byron 9'8 has 31 inches of width that continues well past the center-line in either direction, providing more stability (partially derived from ample surface area contact on the water), and a roomy deck for various paddling stances, gear, and possibly a small passenger.

The compact size of the Byron 9'8 makes it manageable on and off the water for smaller to medium sized paddlers. The board's remarkable edge stiffness, thanks to its chiseled layers and high pressure capacity, means you can confidently lean into turns without slippage.

Heat-Welded Rails

The Byron’s inner rail is bonded first, then mechanically fused with a 20mm PVC strip using heat and pressure welding. This creates a stronger, more reliable seal and greatly reduces the risk of leaks over time, making the risk of board failure virtually zero.

Universal "No Tools" Fin System

The Byron uses a split fin box for easier rolling, paired with a 9" dolphin fin that locks in with a spring-loaded quick-release plate...No tools needed. Just push down and twist the rectangular plate into position, and you’re ready to paddle. It’s a universal system, so you can run any standard fin, but we’ve refined it with our spring-loaded plate and thumbscrew design for faster setup and a more secure fit.

Heavy Duty Roller Backpack

The material is 1680D Ripstop Nylon, which is extremely durable and repairable. One of the first things you will notice when you put the bag on your back is how chunky the shoulder straps, waist belt, and buckles are. Everything is over-engineered and designed to last.
